Fresh out of milk?

Do you ever start making a mix and half-way through realize that you don't have a staple ingredient ...like milk? Please tell me I'm not the only one, lol. This happened to me yesterday when preparing the Herbed Italian Bread. I was fresh OUT OF MILK. What did I have on hand? Vegan sour cream. Yup, that will work! So I scooped about 1/4 cup of it into a small mixing bowl and added 1/2 cup of water. Whisked until creamy and smooth then added it in place of the 3/4 cup of milk that the recipe called for. It was FANTASTIC! And to be totally honest, it was the brilliant suggestion of my bff. Folks, this is why it's important who you surround yourself with, lol. In all seriousness though, you can do the same thing in almost any recipe. If you don't have sour cream, try cream cheese!

Here is what you need:

Milk Replacement

1/4 C sour cream or cream cheese
1/2-3/4 cup water

Add all ingredients to bowl and whisk until smooth, and get baking!

  • Hi! A friend sent me some of your mixes recently and I can’t wait to try them! I wanted to ask if coconut milk or almond milk are good replacements for the milk that is added to some of the mix recipes? Or if water is the best substitute?

    Thank you!
